For many years, Peterhouse has been proud to organise the Vellacott History essay competition and the Kelvin Science essay competition was set up in 1999 to try to duplicate its success. In 2008 we instituted the Thomas Campion English essay competition, kindly funded by the Friends of Peterhouse. All three prizes have the following aims.

Dukes Education Essay Prize. The Dukes Essay Prize 2020 is now open for submissions. The deadline for submissions is 4pm, 1st June 2020. Our Essay Prize is a nationwide scheme that encourages academic exploration, creativity, and lateral thinking in students in Yrs 11-12.
Essay Prize 2020. The Robinson College Essay Prize is open to all students currently in Year 12 (Lower Sixth, or equivalent) at a UK School. It is designed to give students the opportunity to develop and showcase their independent study and writing skills.
The BSCB Science Writing Prize was launched in 2009 to encourage and reward high quality writing on topics of key relevance to cell biology. Entrants have either communicated their own research projects or science stories in the literature, in a clear and concise way aimed at a non-specialist audience, or written essays that were not be limited.
This competition runs annually and is open to medical, biological science and veterinary science undergraduates. The Paola Domizio Undergraduate Essay Prize 2019 will open on 10 February and close on 26 June; The essay has to be no more than 1,000 words, excluding references and bibliography.
